BOOKING A TATTOO

What you need to lnow about booking a tattoo appointment with Finley!

Rates and Deposit

Rate: Hourly rate is $140-$175 sliding scale, this applies to custom tattoo sessions and large scale pieces. This starts at the beginning of the session, but placement or freehanding that exceeds 1 hour will not be added to the final price.

Half-day session (4 hours): $450

Full day session (7-9 hours): $800

These options are for clients who may want to book multiple flash pieces, or want to start a big project that will span multiple sessions.

Many pre-drawn flash designs have set prices within a set size range. Estimates can be provided upon request, and payment plans can be discussed and considered upon request.

Deposit: A non-refundable transferrable $50 deposit is required to book a tattoo. This will be deducted from the final price for flash tattoo designs, but will not be deducted for custom pieces (where it is counted as the drawing fee). If you need to reschedule your tattoo session, the deposit can be transferred.

Last minute cancellations without rescheduling for guest spots may incur a cancellation fee of $100 (this is due to reliance on guest spot appointments to fund the guest spot  trip and cover guest studio fees).

Consultations

I offer free consultations for tattoos, these can be virtual or in-person. Email or DM in Instagram to schedule a consult.

Before a Tattoo

Across the board it is highly important to eat a meal before a tattoo session, refrain from drinking or doing drugs before a session, refrain from taking any kind of non-medically necessary blood thinning medications (such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen is OK), and drink lots of water before/during the session.

While not necessary, it is also recommended to moisturize the tattoo area regularly up to a week before the session, take a covid test at least a day before the tattoo session, and exfoliate the tattoo area prior to the appointment.

Tattoo sessions can go faster if the skin is healthy!

First Tattoo?

Thank you so much for considering Finley for your first tattoo! They have done many people's first tats and make sure to create a space that is comfortable, safe,  and responsive to the needs and concerns of any clients, especially those nervous about their first tattoo. They encourage  scheduling a consultation to answer any questions and make sure the tattoo and session can be the best possible.

Accessibility

Discounts: Deals and negotiations are available for clients who may not be able to pay full price. Anyone is welcome to ask about discounted sessions or working within budgets. Finley offers 3 Pay-What-You-Can sessions a month, these are announced on Instagram.

Numbing: A variety of numbing cream and spray options are available upon request.

Studio Accessibility:  Studio accessibility may range depending on the location Finley is tattooing at (since they sometimes jump around studios or guest spot out of town). Please let them know of any accessibility needs prior to the appointment via Instagram  DM or email.

Guest Spots

Finley often travels multiple times a year to different tattoo shops (typically along the US west coast). Keep an eye out for guest spot announcements via Instagram , and eventually through his newsletter.

Rates and deposit may change for guest spots to account for the different common rates in the guest spot location.

If you are a fan of their work and live far from the Bay Area, reach out Finley to suggest guest spot locations!

Tipping

Do you have to tip?

It is up to you! While tipping tattoo artists is commonly seen in the industry, it is not required.

If you do not know tipping etiquette, here are some fun and-or important tips:

  • Tips can range from $10 for a flash tattoo to $100 for a large piece. 20%-30% is common as well.

  • It is okay not to tip if you are unable.

  • Creative non-monetary tips are welcome! Finley has recieved a variety of non-monetary tips such as baked goods, jewelry, joints, rocks, found objects, and art.

Color Tests

A color test session is simple: we do a mini tattoo with as many colors as desired in order for the client and artist to understand clearly how certain colors show up and heal on your skin. This is primarily for clients with melanated skin or with skin conditions that can affect pigmentation or skin texture. Color test sessions are $35 flat rate.
